What It Does
A jubilee clamp wraps around a soft hose. The hose sits over a rigid pipe or barbed fitting. When you tighten the nut, the clamp compresses the hose against the pipe. The connection becomes watertight.
The clamp has a smooth inner band. It does not cut into the hose like some cheaper clamps. The bridge piece distributes pressure evenly around the whole circumference. You get a 360 degree seal.
Where to Use It
You are connecting a layflat hose to a pump outlet. Slide the clamp over the hose, push the hose onto the outlet, then tighten the clamp. The hose will not blow off under pressure.
Use the clamp on any soft hose. That includes layflat hose, rubber hose, PVC hose, and suction hose. It works for irrigation, water transfer, and even low pressure air.
The 304 stainless steel resists rust. You can leave it outdoors. It is suitable for marine environments, food processing, and chemical handling. It is a heavy duty clamp.
Installation
Open the clamp fully by turning the nut counter clockwise. Slide the clamp over the hose end. Push the hose onto the rigid pipe or barb. Position the clamp over the middle of the hose overlap. Not too close to the end, not too far back.
Tighten the nut with a screwdriver or a nut driver. Do not over tighten. Stop when the clamp is snug. If you see the hose bulging through the slots, you have gone too far.
The recommended torque is 18.5 Nm. That is about as tight as you can get with a short screwdriver by hand. If you use a long wrench, you can easily overdo it.
