What It Is
This is a 16mm drip irrigation line with built in emitters. The emitters are spaced evenly along the tube. Water enters the line and drips out at each emitter. You lay the line along your crop rows.
The roll is 1000 metres long. That is one kilometre. You can cover a large field with one roll. Cut the line to the length you need.
Choosing Wall Thickness
Wall thickness matters. A thicker wall lasts longer but costs more.
0.3mm (12 mil) is for short term crops. One or two seasons. It works for vegetables like tomatoes, kales, and capsicums. It is lighter and cheaper.
0.4mm (15 mil) is for longer term use. Two to four seasons. It works for orchards, perennials, and high value crops. It resists damage from tools and UV better.
If you plan to move the dripline between seasons, choose the thicker wall. It handles handling better.
Choosing Emitter Spacing
Emitter spacing depends on your crop and soil type.
10cm spacing is for sandy soils or closely spaced crops like onions, carrots, or leafy greens. Water spreads less in sand, so you need emitters closer together.
15cm and 20cm spacing are for most vegetables. Tomatoes, capsicums, cucumbers, melons. This is the most common range.
30cm and 40cm spacing are for wider spaced crops. Maize, pumpkins, orchards. Also for clay soils where water spreads farther.
For fruit trees like mango, avocado, or citrus, you may want spacing of 50cm or more. Ask us if you need a custom spacing.
Installation
Lay the dripline along your crop row. Keep it straight. The emitters should face upward or downward depending on your system. Upward is common to prevent roots from growing into the emitter.
Connect the dripline to your sub main using a start connector. Our PE To Drip Connector 16mm works well. Seal the far end with a Drip End Cap 16mm.
Flush the line before you use it. Open the far end. Let water run until all air and debris are out. Then close it with the end cap.
Pressure and Flow
This dripline works at typical pressures of 0.5 to 1.5 bar. That is about 7 to 22 PSI. Higher pressure can damage the emitters. Use a pressure regulator if your pump delivers more.
The flow rate per emitter depends on the model. Most are 1 to 2 litres per hour. Check with Irrihub for the exact rating.
