What It Does
A layflat hose coupling has two halves. You slide one half onto each hose end, then lock the halves together. Without a gasket, water can leak out through the gap between the halves.
The rubber gasket sits inside the coupling. When you tighten the coupling, the gasket compresses. It fills the gap and creates a watertight seal.
Think of it like the rubber washer inside a garden hose connector. Same idea, bigger size.
Where to Use It
Use this gasket whenever you connect two layflat hoses with a universal coupling. It also works for connecting a layflat hose to a fitting like a pump outlet or a valve.
The gasket is suitable for low pressure applications. That means irrigation systems, not high pressure industrial lines. It can also be used for low pressure air, such as in ventilation hoses.
How to Install
Open the coupling. Place the gasket inside the female half of the coupling. Make sure it sits flat. It should not be twisted or folded.
Then join the two coupling halves as usual. Tighten the coupling by hand or with the built in levers. The gasket will compress as you tighten.
If the gasket does not fit snugly, it may be the wrong size. Check that your coupling size matches the gasket size. A loose gasket will not seal.
Maintenance
Rubber gaskets can dry out and crack over time. Inspect your gaskets at the start of each season. If you see cracks, flat spots, or hard brittle rubber, replace the gasket. A damaged gasket will leak.
Store spare gaskets in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Sunlight degrades rubber. Keep them in a sealed bag.
