HDPE Pipes

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes are the durable, flexible arteries of modern irrigation systems. They provide exceptional resistance to high pressures, UV rays, and chemical fertilizers for long-term farm infrastructure.

  • High-density PE100 or PE80 material provides superior structural strength and long-term pressure resistance.
  • The inclusion of carbon black provides the pipe with excellent protection against UV degradation for long-term surface use.
  • The flexible design allows for natural bending around farm obstacles without the need for additional elbows.
  • These pipes are fully resistant to standard water-soluble NPK fertilizers and soil chemicals used in modern farming.
  • Smooth internal walls significantly minimize friction loss to ensure maximum water delivery at the end of the line.

Product Description

The Foundation of Modern Irrigation

HDPE pipes are engineered to handle the heavy demands of Kenyan agriculture. Unlike rigid PVC, HDPE is highly flexible and resistant to brittle cracking, making it the perfect choice for rocky soils and high-pressure pumping systems.

Whether you are building a mainline from a borehole or a lateral line for a sprinkler system, these pipes provide a leak-proof foundation that can last for decades when installed correctly.

The material naturally absorbs the constant vibrations generated by centrifugal pumps, reducing the risk of fatigue cracking common in rigid systems. It also performs well in regions with expansive black cotton soil, where its ductility allows the pipe to flex with the ground’s natural swelling and shrinking rather than snapping under pressure.

Pressure Ratings and Temperature De-rating

Choosing the right pipe depends on your water source and the required delivery pressure. Our pipes are categorized by their PN (Pressure Nominal) rating, which indicates the maximum pressure they can handle at a standard temperature of 20°C.

In the Kenyan climate, where surface pipes can heat up significantly, you must account for "temperature de-rating." For every 10°C increase above 20°C, the working pressure of the pipe should be reduced by approximately 10% to 15%. For example, at 30°C, a PN10 pipe should be operated at no more than 8.7 bar to ensure long-term safety.

Efficiency Through Engineering

The interior of our HDPE pipes is perfectly smooth, which significantly reduces "head loss" caused by friction as water travels through the system. This means your pump does not have to work as hard to deliver the same amount of water, saving you fuel and electricity costs over time.

Additionally, the material is fully chemically resistant to the standard NPK fertilizers used in fertigation, ensuring your pipeline will not corrode or degrade when nutrients are injected into the water stream.

Available Sizes & Pricing

Our HDPE pipes are sold per meter. The price range for each diameter depends on the specific PN rating and wall thickness required for your project.

Professional Installation and Thermal Care

HDPE has a high rate of thermal expansion, specifically 0.2mm/m/°C. For a 100-meter line, a 20°C temperature swing between midday and night can cause the pipe to move by 40cm. To maintain the full PN pressure rating, we recommend burying the pipe at least 50cm deep to keep it at a stable temperature.

When laying the pipe in a trench, avoid pulling it tight.  Instead, "snake" the pipe slightly from side to side to provide room for this natural movement. Always observe the minimum bend radius when curving the pipe and avoid sharp kinks that could restrict flow or fatigue the material.
