Product Description

What It Is

A threaded nipple is a short pipe with male BSP threads on both ends. It connects two female threaded fittings. The middle has a hex shape. You put a wrench on the hex to tighten it.

Think of it as a double ended male adapter. No barbs, no glue. Just threads.

Sizes We Stock

We have four sizes: 1", 1¼", 1½", 2".

All are BSP threads. BSP is the standard in Kenya.

When to Use a Nipple

You have two valves that need to connect back to back. Put a nipple between them. The nipple threads into the outlet of the first valve and the inlet of the second.

You need to extend a threaded pipe stub. The stub is too short to reach a fitting. Screw a nipple into the stub. Now you have a longer threaded section.

You are building a manifold. You have several tees and elbows. Nipples connect them together.

A threaded fitting breaks. You cut off the damaged part. You glue a new female adapter onto the pipe. Then use a nipple to connect to the next fitting.

Installation

Wrap PTFE tape around both male threads. Five to seven turns is good. Do not use too much. Too much tape can crack the fitting when you tighten it.

Screw one end into the first female fitting. Hand tighten. Use a wrench on the hex to tighten the second end into the other fitting.

Do not use the wrench on the threaded parts. That can damage the threads. Only use the wrench on the hex section.

Common Mistakes

Over tightening is the biggest mistake. PVC is strong but brittle. If you force it, the threads will crack. The fitting will leak or fail completely.

If a nipple leaks, do not keep tightening. Remove it. Add more PTFE tape. Try again.

Do not use thread sealant paste unless it is approved for PVC. Some pastes contain solvents that weaken the plastic. PTFE tape is safe.
