Product Description
What It Does
A glue-type union works on the same principle as a threaded union. Two pipe sections can be joined and separated without cutting, but the pipe connection at each end is made with PVC solvent cement rather than threads.
The socket ends glue onto the pipe permanently. The joint in the middle, sealed by an EPDM O-ring and held by a threaded collar, is where the union opens and closes. This gives you a permanent pipe connection that can still be undone at a specific point when needed.
Where Farmers Use It
This type of union is well suited to all-PVC systems where the mainline is plain PVC pipe without threads. By gluing the union directly onto the pipe, you get the full strength of a solvent-welded joint at each end, plus the ability to separate the line at that point for pump removal, filter servicing, or seasonal dismantling.
Common locations include either side of a pump, before and after a filter housing, and at the inlet or outlet of a water storage tank.

Installation Notes
Apply PVC solvent cement to both the pipe end and the inside of the union socket, push together with a slight turn, and hold for a few seconds. Allow the joint to cure before bringing the two halves of the union together and tightening the threaded collar.
The EPDM O-ring provides the watertight seal at the collar; no tape or cement is needed there. To disconnect, simply unscrew the collar.
