Product Description
A threaded coupling joins two sections of threaded pipe in a straight line. This PVC version has female NPT threads on both ends, so you screw a male-threaded pipe into each side, and the two sections become one continuous run.
It is one of the most common fittings on any irrigation setup, used wherever a pipe run needs to be extended, repaired, or connected to a valve, pump, or water meter.
Where Farmers Use It
On small and medium-scale farms, this coupling turns up in drip irrigation mainlines, sprinkler system pipework, and water distribution lines running from a tank or pump to the field.
It also works well where a damaged section of pipe needs to be cut out and replaced without pulling apart the whole line. Because it uses standard NPT threads, it connects directly to most valves, taps, filters, and other fittings already on the market in Kenya.
Installation Notes
- Cut the pipe square and remove any burrs before threading.
- Wrap PTFE (plumber's) tape around the male threads of your pipe (two to three wraps is enough) before screwing into the coupling.
- Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench for a quarter to half turn more.
Do not overtighten. PVC threads strip easily, and a snug fit with good tape is all you need for a leak-free joint.
Compatibility
This coupling is designed for NPT-threaded PVC pipe and fittings. NPT is a tapered thread standard, meaning the threads grip tighter as you turn them.
It is not directly interchangeable with BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads, so check the thread type on your existing fittings before ordering.
