Product Description

What It Does

A layflat elbow changes the direction of your hose by 90 degrees. One end points one way. The other end points at a right angle. You push hoses onto both barbs. Water flows in one end and out the other, turning the corner.

Without an elbow, you would have to kink your hose. A kink stops water flow. The elbow gives you a clean, smooth turn.

Where a Farmer Would Use It

You are running a layflat mainline along the edge of your field. You need to turn the corner and run down the next side. Put an elbow at the corner. The mainline continues without kinking.

Your pump is in one position. Your field is around a corner. Run the hose straight from the pump to the elbow. Then from the elbow to the field. No kinks, no flow loss.

You are setting up a temporary irrigation system around obstacles. A tree, a building, a rock. Use elbows to go around them.

In a greenhouse, you might need to run a hose from a central mainline to benches on two sides. An elbow at the end of the mainline sends the hose in the new direction.

Installation

Cut the hose ends square. Warm them in the sun if they are stiff. Push one hose onto one barb until it covers all the ridges. That is about 20 to 30mm. Push the second hose onto the other barb.

Use hose clamps on both ends. The elbow creates more friction than a straight coupling. Without clamps, the hoses may blow off under pressure. Our Steel Clamp Jubilee Type is a good fit.

Flow Impact

A 90 degree elbow creates more resistance than a straight pipe. Water slows down slightly at the bend. For most irrigation systems, the effect is small. But if you have many elbows in one line, you may notice lower pressure at the far end.

Try to use as few elbows as possible. Use gentle bends in the hose if you can. But when you need a sharp turn, the elbow is the right tool.

Material and Durability

The elbow is made of HDPE. That is high density polyethylene. It is strong, UV resistant, and chemical resistant. It will not rust. It will not crack in the sun.

The barbed ends are designed to grip the inside of the hose. The grip is strong enough for normal pressures. With clamps, it can handle higher pressures.
