You want to connect it to a 1 and a half inch female pipe. A standard nipple would not fit because the sizes are different. The new fittings are another size. The filter has a 2 inch female thread. The mainline has a 1 and a half inch male adapter. Use more tape on the larger thread. Seven turns is good. Hand tighten. PVC threads crack easily. If it leaks, add more tape. The smaller size will be the weak point. For example, a 2 inch by 1 inch nipple is only as strong as a 1 inch nipple.
