Put a nipple between them. The nipple threads into the outlet of the first valve and the inlet of the second.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou need to extend a threaded pipe stub. The stub is too short to reach a fitting. Screw a nipple into the stub. Now you have a longer threaded section.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou are building a manifold. You have several tees and elbows. Nipples connect them together.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA threaded fitting breaks. You cut off the damaged part. You glue a new female adapter onto the pipe. Five to seven turns is good. Do not use too much. Too much tape can crack the fitting when you tighten it.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eScrew one end into the first female fitting. Hand tighten. Use a wrench on the hex to tighten the second end into the other fitting.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDo not use the wrench on the threaded parts. That can damage the threads. Only use the wrench on the hex section.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3 class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCommon Mistakes\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOver tightening is the biggest mistake. PVC is strong but brittle. If you force it, the threads will crack. The fitting will leak or fail completely.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf a nipple leaks, do not keep tightening. Remove it. Some pastes contain solvents that weaken the plastic.
