Slide the clamp over the hose, push the hose onto the outlet, then tighten the clamp. That includes layflat hose, rubber hose, PVC hose, and suction hose. Do not over tighten. Stop when the clamp is snug. That is about as tight as you can get with a short screwdriver by hand.
